This is so interesting, especially because my twin sister and I have been talking A LOT about how at this stage of life, there is a lot of emphasis on women's low labido being problematic, and thus, a lot of focus on how to increase it. (Whereas there is no conversation around how to lower men's labido... similar to how there is no focus on men's birth control, etc. - it's always a problem that women need to resolve, to the benefit of men, generally speaking.) But I do get that pleasure is a beautiful thing and not to be shut-off, though sometimes it feels like a natural biological evolution to slow down sexually, and even want less of it! We've found our mates, we've procreated, we've been through the ups-and-downs of countless hormonal changes, and now it's time for other stuff! But but but, after reading your post, I'm willing to reconsider and shift my mindset towards seeing this phase as a launchpad :).
Thank you for this thoughtful comment! I love that you and your sister have dialogue about this—it’s so valuable to have others on the peri team. And yes, it makes sense that it might feel like a shut-off (especially if we’ve spent years performing our pleasure or doing it for others)(and that we’ve been lied to by media/business that we’re ‘past our prime,’ etc) but there is SO MUCH POWER in using pleasure both as a healing modality and as an active form of self-care! I transformed my sex life at like 38… and it’s still shifting and changing, and I’m just determined to have excellent pleasure throughout my 40s, 50s, 60s and beyond 💞
